what we do

Food For Thought Books Collective is an independent, not-for-profit, workers' collective project dedicated to the dissemination of radical & progressive media in all its various forms. We seek to provide a space where voices and ideas silenced and ignored by the mainstream media are given room to be heard, to be seen, to be supported and to be realized.

Food For Thought Books sees itself as in solidarity with all struggles for justice, peace and equality and allies itself with all peoples resisting violence and oppression. We believe in media as a potential means toward the realization of social justice and liberation. As lines of communication are opened between us, we can more effectively work together to re-create our society so that it meets real human needs and nurtures positive potentials.

Workers' collective? Not-for-profit? Independent? What does all that mean?

• "Collectively-run" means there are no bosses here. We work together through cooperation and consensus.
  
  
• "Not-for-profit" means we all earn a fixed wage. Any profit over & above our base expenses we donate back to our community. We are dedicated to the principles of mutual aid & local solidarity.
  
  
• "Independent" means the workers are the owners of this store and no one owns us. The money you spend here stays in this community & helps keep it a thriving & enjoyable place to live.
